Organic food and it`s overabundance of information often discourages parents so much that they dare not to deal with the issue. In terms of eco toys it's the other way around: There is too little information, and so hardly anyone knows about. We often heard about toy scandals, as recently in April of this year when during a review of 150 toys (including expensive branded toys) by the German North Rhine-Westphalia's ministry for consumer protection and health almost 11 percent failed because of chemical defects. Perhaps it is time check what we can find out about eco toys.
What are eco toys anyway? Quality toys are not automatically green toys. A good alternative are high-quality wooden toys.
So what is the definition for ecological toys:
• The production was carried out from renewable resources, without intensive farming, have been obtained without the depletion of natural resources and without the use of pesticides.
• The process should be environmentally friendly. This includes the economical use of energy and water.
• Paints, varnishes, adhesives and other additives should be low in pollutants or toxic substances. • No unnecessary packaging or recyclable packaging.
• The produced devices must be durable, can be repaired and have spare parts.
